Target Audience

It was important for me to select my target audience before creating my magazine because my entire magazine would revolve around the target audience, from the title to the images to the content.
I have developed an idea of who I would like my target audience to be, however I am hoping that not only they would purchase my magazine. Hopefully others would be interested in purchasing my magazine for other reasons that I may not have aimed directly at them. The audience that my magazine is aimed at is young and between the ages of 15 and 25. Also my target audience is not aimed at any single gender, it is aimed at both males and females. I have catered for this audience throughout the designing and developing of my magazine.

The inspiration for my magazine has come from magazines such as NME and Q.

Existing Media

Before beginning to create my own magazine I looked at numerous examples of existing media for inspiration. I went out and bought other music magazines to look at the layout, colours and imagery used throughout. I then thought about how each aspect had been used and why it may have been used as it had. I looked at many copies of NME, looking at the front cover, contents and also the features used for its double page spreads.

Research- font type

(Click on an image to see it more clearly, then click the back arrow)
I began to create my magazine front cover and tried out various font types for my masthead. I then decided to ask 30 people between the ages of 15 and 25 which font out of three chosen fonts they preferred. I gathered these fonts from the website dafont.com.
Font One.

Font Two.

Font Three.

After retrieving the results from this research I tallied them up and created a pie chart to display my results. After reviewing the results I chose to use font number one as this was the font that most appealed to my target audience.
